Lexicon Vitae
Have you ever fallen down a wiki hole until the wee hours in the morning, only to emerge, bleary-eyed and desperately scrabbling for pins, a corkboard, and an unfortunate victim to tell about your findings? Have you done that on wiktionary? Do you know what philology means?? This might be the game for you.
If that's not so much your speed, but you want to wander through a lovingly-rendered giant pixel art tree and talk to some Weirdos & Woodland Critters, we've got you covered too.
Lexicon Vitae is a game about the weird worlds and history lurking behind seemingly innocuous, everyday words. There's a lot of dorks in there to chat with. Check it out.
Made with Bitsy for BITSY FEST (bitsy jam #77), which is being hosted by the extremely cool Museum of Screens.
Big thanks to Rascal for help with playtesting, hack wrangling, and generally infecting my psyche with extremely powerful nonsense that I can then pass on to the world at large. I'm so tired.

What a game! Such a simple and relatable premise, yet what adventures it led me through! Each word is a small story, and each story is full of humor and character. My favorites were the self-aware Sherlock Holmes and a story about a father and a child watching a sunrise. Each of them could have easily been their own bitsy games, yet they are only optional vignettes on this rich and sprawling tapestry.
Amazing. Definitely the most entertaining wiki-dives I have ever had.
P.S.: climbing trees is hard and may yield unpredictable results, who could have thought! Seriously, though, at some points I was almost stuck at those branches, not understanding where to go to get to the portal.
Thank you! Have a great day.
oh this is SO cute. you really captured not only tons of different and distinct character voices and locations, but also the wonder of history and etymology and change itself. a really lovely little journey. thank you for making it!
Thank you! They were all a lot of fun to write.
This was truly delightful! What a fun little examination into language and into the possibilities of Bitsy games!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderfully weird and an etymology nerd's paradise. Well done!
Thank you!
